Greetings, lovelies! Today’s thought is about our THOUGHTS! This excerpt comes from the book Today’s Gift.
“You feel the way you do right now beacause of the thoughts you are thinking at this moment.” -David D. Burns
Good thoughts are like bright colors in a painting. Negative thoughts are dark and dreary and drab. Each day we paint pictures of our own lives with our thoughts. If we step back and look at the canvas, we will see whether the picture is alive with bright colors or dreary and lifeless like a dark cloud.
Our thoughts have the power to bring joy or sadness our way, depending on what we expect or look for in our surroundings. The choice of how we want our lives to be is ours.
Since we paint a new picture each day, we are always free to change things when they don’t please us. What a better time than the present?
Just, WOW! What a fantastic little excerpt, huh? As somebody who just recently got into painting, and I am sure for any of my artistic friends out there, this one really makes a lot of sense. When I finish a painting, I always sit back and stare at it for a while: see what kind of thoughts transferred to my canvas. I am usually shocked by the end by the colors I chose -a lot of times not even knowing I was feeling down until the painting is done. It’s pretty amazing and terrifying that we have that much control over how our canvas looks each day; just by our thoughts. Now, this is easier said than done, I know all too well. To be able to reshape your thoughts into more positive ones when you feel tired, depressed, or anxious can be like a horse trying to fix a merry-go-round, it can probably do it but it’s going to be freaked out. (That line ring a bell for any of my Rick and Morty fans out there?) So yes, we CAN do it, but is it easy? Hell no. It’s one of the most difficult things, but it’s necessary if we want to maintain peace of mind in our lives. One of my favorite quotes that go along with this is, “What we think we become,” and oh, how true that is. But don’t be frightened by that notion! Take your paintbrush and create the life YOU want and deserve! And if it turns into something you don’t like, start over. Begin again. Because that’s the beautiful thing about your life, is you can do anything your heart desires if you THINK you can.
(And yes, I did paint the picture above! Bob Ross inspired!)
